James W. Schnell, M.D., Charleston Gastroenterology at Palmetto Digestive Disease, PA

A California native, Dr. Michael Sagatelian attended the University of California at Davis, earning both a B.S. in biochemistry and an M.D before moving on to the University of California at Irvine to fulfill his internship and residency requirements. He moved to Louisville, Kentucky to become certified in gastroenterology. While in Louisville, Dr. Sagatelian was Chief of Gastroenterology at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and also served as assistant professor of medicine in the GI department.

He also met his wife – another physician -- in Louisville and, in 1995, they looked at Charleston and decided to move. Since then, Dr. Sagatelian has been a co-owner of Palmetto Digestive Disease PA.

"What I like here," Dr. Sagatelian says, "we deliver a personal approach. When you listen to the patient, you can learn what you need to do."

Dr. Sagatelian keeps healthy on foot. He and his wife enjoy running and training for half-marathons as well as attending sporting events with their two children.
