The saying goes: “Smile because you never know who’s watching.” But for those who don’t like their own smile, their insecurities often hold them back from doing exactly that. From worn-down teeth to discoloration and gaps to chips or cracks, there’s a wide range of reasons why people fear grinning from ear to ear. It’s certainly understandable that these cosmetic issues would cause them to lack confidence, which is why Dr. James J. Richart and his team at Northbridge Dental are determined to help patients find their smiles again, one set of veneers at a time.
What Is a Veneer?
Veneers are thin, custom-made ceramic shells that cover the front surfaces of teeth, helping patients achieve the beautifully straight and pearly white appearance they long for. Previously, getting veneers was a long and frustrating process that included making an impression from uncomfortable molds and fitting the problem teeth with temporary solutions – that frequently fell off – until the permanent versions were ready. Several weeks later, after the final mold returned from an outsourced lab, patients were able to get their veneers set during a second visit.
But after 18 years of practicing, Dr. Richart understands that no one has the time or desire to put off a perfect smile any longer. By introducing the CEREC® by Sirona Dental Systems, Northbridge Dental is able to offer their patients same-day veneers and crowns without temporaries or uncomfortable molds – among other exciting advantages.
So What is CEREC Exactly?
Standing for “Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics,” CEREC and Dr. Richart digitally design and manufacture permanent veneers and crowns. By combining a camera, a computer and a cutting tool into one, dentists are able to accomplish every step of the restoration process in a single visit.
Aside from the drastic reduction in wait time, the benefits of utilizing the CEREC technology are plentiful. With its ability to chisel a near-perfect veneer, they bond so closely to the actual teeth that the risk of bacteria or tooth decay is drastically reduced. Additional benefits include: not using any metal throughout the process; minimal removal of the healthy tooth; and long-lasting results. Overall, the entire process takes less than two hours, allowing patients to walk in and out the same day with a picture-perfect smile.
Dr. Richart and his team are proud to offer excellent general and cosmetic dentistry for the Charleston community, as they have been doing since Northbridge Dental opened in 2001.
“The new materials and techniques today allow us to feel confident in the strength and functionality of our dentistry while providing an incredible, aesthetically pleasing result,” he said.
